Students ‘plugged in’ to new level

You’ve probably read similar stories in your local student newspapers: According to the UW-Madison student newspaper The Daily Cardinal, student ownership of laptop computers now exceeds that of desktop computers. Also, Division of Information Technology spokesperson Brian Rust is quopted as saying 62 percent of surveyed students use wireless Intenet on campus, and of that group, 54 percent also use wireless at home. Cell phone ownership is measured at 79 percent, but that figure may well be higher because of use of combination devices like Blackberries, PDAs and phones with instant messaging capabilities, cameras, and email access, the article reports. Ownership of MP3 players has jumped to 53 percent in 2006 from 35 percent in 2005.
