Communicating science

Communicators working in science fields enjoy talking shop, at least here on the campus of the UW-Madison. Madeline Fisher and Greta Zenner have arranged for a series of brown bag lunchtime discussions and “meet the author” opportunities over the past year, including a session with author Philip Ball, science journalist, author of the book Bright Earth, and contributing editor to Nature; a tour of the Nanoworld Discovery Center at the UW-Madison Materials Research Science and Engineering Center; a panel presentation by University Communications science writers Brian Mattmiller and Terry Devitt on how to package stories to catch the attention of the media gatekeepers; and an upcoming visit with science writer in residence, Colin Norman, currently news editor of Science.
